The Rosary is a prayer throughout the Church. It is Christocentric, meditative and repetitive, ie through the repetition of a few tens of Hail Marys, one meditates on the life of Jesus Christ.
Traditionally, the Rosary is composed of three strings, each corresponding to a series of five mysteries: the
- joyful mysteries concerning the Incarnation and the hidden life of Jesus,
- the sorrowful mysteries for the passion, and finally
- glorious mysteries for the triumph of the Resurrection.
Each mystery to meditate and say 10 Hail Mary ; it happens, the entire Rosary, the total number of 150 angelic salutations, which correspond to the 150 Psalms of the Old Testament.
The Joyful Mysteries are said on Mondays and Thursdays, the sorrowful Tuesdays and Fridays, the Glorious on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
In the apostolic letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae of October 16, 2002, Pope John Paul II added a fourth set of mysteries: the mysteries of light for the public life of Jesus.
This implies, for those wanting to pray this new series of mysteries, that the pattern of the week is modified: they say the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday, with the joyful mysteries are pushed to Saturday, where they replace the glorious mysteries.
How to pray?
Well it must have at its disposal a string (see photo) or a small Dizainier (a cross over 10 beads).

For each mystery, then said his name, and the fruit to obtain. We can also read a short excerpt from the Gospel or short text related to the mystery concerned (see website Theotokos, for example).
